Winemaking on the NSW South Coast began right here in the mid-1800s, when Alexander Berry planted the first vines on the foothills of Mount Coolangatta.

More than a century later, in the late 1980s, Greg Bishop saw the potential to bring viticulture back to the Estate. Recognising the Shoalhaven’s maritime climate as ideal for growing premium grapes, he planted our first vineyard — Sauvignon Blanc on the eastern slopes of the mountain.

Today, we care for 25 acres of vineyards, growing 10 different grape varieties. All of our fruit is hand-picked, allowing us to harvest at the right moment and maintain the quality we’re known for.

In 1991, Coolangatta Estate released the Alexander Berry Chardonnay — the first premium wine from the Shoalhaven. In 1997, that same wine went on to win a Gold Medal at the National Wine Show of Australia, putting the region firmly on the map.

Over the past 30 years, Coolangatta Estate has received more than 2,200 wine awards and 210 trophies at International, National, and Regional wine shows. Today, we remain the most awarded winery on the NSW South Coast, with a strong focus on quality, tradition, and a deep connection to this place
